One of them was Eddie Nabors of Georgia, a 52-year-old truck driver who said after the win that he planned to buy a house for his daughter, pay off mortgages for his mum and sister and buy a fishing boat for his son. The other winner of this Jackpot was a couple, Elaine and Harold Messner of Cape May County New Jersey. Each winner – Nabors as well as the Messners - got an $87.4 million in cash, after taxes, from their lottery win. However unlike Nabors, the latter, through a lawyer hired before going to claim the prize money, declined all comment on how they planned to spend the money.

In January 2011, Jim and Carolyn McCullar, of Washington, hit the Mega Millions jackpot, worth $380 million.McCullar took back $190 million since he had bought one of the two winning tickets in the $380million Mega Millions lottery. The grandfather of 23 kissed his wife Carolyn as he received the oversized cheque and promptly handed it over to her with the comment, “We've been married 41 years,” he said. “I know what to do with this cheque”' Upon asked by reporters on what he planned to do with the amount, Jim McCullar said he planned to pass his winnings on to his kids and donate to charity.
The claimant to the other half of the $380 million Mega Millions Jackpot 2011, turned out to be a single mother of two from northern Idaho, Holly Lahti. Even though she did a disappearing act right after being announced as the other winner of the Jackpot, Lahti was inundated with congratulations on her Facebook wall.

The 2006 Powerball Jackpot in United States was won by a Meatpacking Syndicate from Nebraska. The eight workers from the ConAgra meatpacking plant in Lincoln, Nebraska who had pooled in their earnings to buy the lottery ticket took back $365 million in shared winnings. Two of the winners were immigrants from Vietnam and one of them was from the Congo.

Colin and Christine Weir scooped the Euromillions jackpot in July 2011. With winnings of 185 million Euros, the couple from Largs near Glasgow found a spot on the Sunday Times Rich List at the 430th place, even ahead of celebrities like musician Ringo Starr and entrepreneur Sir Tom Jones. Married for 30 years, the Weirs also took back a couple of lottery titles – the biggest Scottish Winners, the winner/s of the Biggest Euromillions Jackpot and the largest Single Euromillions Winner. Dave and Angela Dawes won the EuroMillions jackpot of £101 million in October 2011. It was the third largest lottery jackpot in UK history but only the third time the couple, from Cambridgeshire, had played the Lottery. Dawes, 47, is a shift supervisor at Premier Foods, and his partner, 43, is a volunteer for the British Heart Foundation. The ticket was bought at WH Smith on the Market Place in Wisbech. The couple, who have been together for four years, said they would continue with their plan to get married in Portugal in 2012.
