Relationships too seem to follow the jet-setting world of their stars. However even in terms of Hollywood relationships, some of its marriages seem incredible in their miniscule life-span.   1. Rudolph Valentino and Jean Acker

    The shortest possible marriage in Hollywood, incredibly enough, goes back by almost a century. Italian-born Rudolph Valentino nicknamed the ‘Latin Love’r was a pop icon of the 1920s. In 1919 he found himself part of an impulsive marriage with Jean Acker, the American actress who was rumored to have lesbian relationships. The marriage lasted a bare six hours with the groom being locked out the honeymoon suite by his bride. This was one of the first cases in Hollywood where the couple was granted a quickie divorce.


     
  2. Britney Spears and Jason Alexander

    In recent times, the dubious credit for the shortest marriage appears to go to pop singer Britney Spears and her childhood friend Jason Alexander. In January 2005 the two got married in a shotgun wedding ceremony in Las Vegas, apparently as part of a ‘joke’ that Spears was later reported to have admitted “went too far”. Barely 55 hours later the newlywed couple came to their senses and called off their relationship. The annulment petition filed by Spears apparently claimed she “lacked understanding of her actions to the extent that she was incapable of agreeing to the marriage”.

    This 1998 marriage between the Baywatch babe and NBA champion lasted all of nine days. However merely after a week of their wedding, things turned ugly and the two agreed to a fast-paced divorce. During the divorce proceedings, the lawyer for Rodman is believed to have said that the reason for the annulment was fraud and an ‘unsound mind’ while the player’s agent even went so far as to suggest that his client was deeply intoxicated during the nuptials.

    American Mexican star Mario Lopez married Ali Landry, a former Miss USA and small-time actress in April 2004, in a Catholic ceremony which was attended by at least fifty guests at the exclusive Las Alamandas resort outside Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. However barely two weeks later Landry filed for divorce claiming she had irrefutable proof of her groom’s infidelities. Amazingly enough, the marriage was the culmination of a six year long relationships when the couple were dating each other exclusively.
     
  5. Ethel Merman and Ernest Borgnine

    The Broadway singer and actress as well as the Oscar-winning actor each had already two failed marriages in the past. However the two went ahead and tied the knot in 1964. The marriage began to unravel even before the newlyweds returned from their honeymoon and within four weeks it was all over. In fact later Borgnine is believed to have said that Merman’s jealousy of his popularity was the main cause of the breakup. The singer retaliated by ensuring that her autobiographical book, Merman contained just a blank page in the chapter titled ‘My Marriage to Ernest Borgnine’.

    Popular Saturday Night Live comedian Chris Kattan married his model girlfriend Sunshine Tutt at a celebrity wedding at Chateau Du Sureau just outside California’s Yosemite National Park. The wedding was not only remarkable for its guest list which virtually read like Who’s Who of Hollywood but also for its green, eco-friendly theme. However things turned dry just within eight weeks of the marriage. Kattan though may have anticipated something like this since he already had a pre-nuptial agreement.

    One of Hollywood’s biggest stars Nicholas Cage tied the knot with Lisa Marie Presley the daughter of pop icon Elvis Presley. The latter had already had a short-lived marriage with pop star Michael Jackson but this one was even shorter lived, succumbing to a quick breakup after about three months of their wedding. Later Lisa Marie is believed to have admitted that her marriage to Cage was "a big mistake… we should not have been married in the first place."

    Favorite rom-com actress Renee Zellweger and country singer Kenny Chesney had a romantic wedding in the tropical paradise St John, an island in the Caribbean. But life hit back with all its starkness when the newlyweds found it impossible to pull along together. Zellweger and Chesney gave up trying after around four months of their wedding and called it quits. The curiously worded joint statement issued after the divorce read "The miscommunication of the objective of their marriage at the start is the only reason for this annulment." And this probably better than anything else symbolized their basic incompatibility.
