How Long Does It Take to Test Positive for HIV?

It all depends of the kind of test taken. The time between being exposed to the virus and the positive result in a test is called the window period. Each type of test has its own window period. There are three types of HIV tests: nucleic acid test, NAT, which will give you a positive result in two weeks after being exposed; antigen/antibody test will show a positive result after three or four weeks of being infected; and antibody tests which will give an answer in about three months after the last exposure to the virus.
