Glacier Bay National Park

Scientists have called Glacier Bay a living laboratory due to its glacial retreat, plant succession, and animal behavior. But even if you are on a romantic vacation, it is practically impossible not to be impressed by the spectacular natural features, the wildlife and the unique vegetation which has sprung up in the newly emerging bay areas with the retreat of the ice sheets. The bay’s West Arm contains the park’s highest mountains and most active tidewater glaciers; the beauty of Bartlett Cove is worth discovering, whether in a group tour or just with your beloved. Other attractions in the Park are the Muir Inlet which is known as the mecca for kayakers, the White Thunder Ridge, the Wolf Creek and Marble Islands which a great place for bird watchers.

Activities at Glacier Bay are as diverse as the area. Outdoor enthusiasts can choose from hiking, camping, mountaineering, kayaking, rafting, fishing, hunting, wilderness adventures, and bird watching. The park is only accessible by boat or plane. From Juneau, take a flight to Gustavus, then take the bus to Glacier Bay Lodge and Bartlett Cove Campground. Alaska Airlines provides daily jet service from Juneau to Gustavus (about 30 minutes) in the summer season. Year-round scheduled air service to Gustavus is also provided by a variety of small air taxis and charters.



Kenai Fjords National Park  

If you and your beloved wish to be part of a spectacular Arctic experience, make it a point to visit the Kenai Fjords National Park, located in Kenai Peninsula in south-central Alaska, near the town of Seward. The park contains the Harding Icefield, one of the largest ice fields in the United States. The park is named for the numerous fjords carved by glaciers moving down the mountains from the ice field. The field is the source of at least 38 glaciers, the largest of which is Bear Glacier. Various companies offer tours of the Kenai Fjords National Park, with many being guided by National Park Rangers. The tours provide views of land and marine wildlife, particularly Steller sea lions, puffins, Dall's porpoises, American black bear, Mountain goats, and humpback and orca whales, as well as natural sights such as the fjords and tidewater glaciers.

Ketchikan

This Alaskan town has quite a variety of activities to offer to its adventurous couples. Many enjoy a flight to Misty Fjords National Monument but you can also take the boat tour to Misty Fjords. Some like to go kayaking in Ketchikan or you if you like fishing, you can opt for the Bering Sea Crab Fisherman's Tour. If it is bear season, many enjoy taking a flight out to see the bears eating salmon. If you want to stay in port, you can take a bus to Totem Bight Historical Park. Drop in at the Saxmen Village a native village which still preserves the way of life of indigenous tribes. Ketchikan has Duck Tours and a Lumberjack Show as well. Then there is an interesting walking tour which will take you through the main sights of scenic beauty.

Mount McKinley

When in Alaska don’t miss the magnificent Mount McKinley, which at 20,320 feet is the highest peak in North America. One of the ways to discover its beauties is to take one of Denali National Park's bus tours and you're likely to see grizzly bears, moose, caribou, Dall sheep, and wolves.
