Flume Gorge, Franconia Notch State Park

For an outdoor attraction that is as spectacular as romantic, head to the Flume Gorge located in the Franconia Notch State Park. Here are lovely trails on which you can hike through a beautiful forest, walk along a rushing river with spectacular waterfalls and huge rocks, and cross over a romantic covered bridge that spans the Pemigewasset River. Though the entire scenery is beautiful, the gorge is one of the most breathtaking sights you will encounter anywhere. The park is open from early May through late October; if you go in early May it's much less crowded and there's a greater volume of water in the river coming down from the snowmelt in the mountains. The Pemi Trail will take you along the Pemigewasset River, and you will see some incredible sights such as The Basin, water rushing over unusually smooth rocks, and many waterfalls. New Hampshire is a state of many country fairs and festivals, especially during the fall months when the landscape is ablaze in rust and gold.
