10 Famous White Women Who Married Black Men

Today inter-racial marriages have come a long way in America since the landmark ruling of June 1967 when U.S. Supreme Court knocked down a Virginia statute barring whites from marrying nonwhites. The decision also overturned similar bans in fifteen other states. Over time as both communities come closer to understanding and appreciating each other, interracial marriages became everyday rather than radical. Here are examples of ten famous white women who felt the same and sought black men as husbands.
 

  1. Heidi Klum 

    Model, television host, businesswoman and fashion designer, Heidi Klum wears many shoes with flamboyance. And one of them is being the wife of famous English singer Seal with whom she has three biological children. Klum is of German origin and though she became a naturalized American citizen in 2008, she continues to maintain her German citizenship. Klum and Seal renew their marriage vows every year on the day of their wedding anniversary before family and friends.
     
  2. Elin Nordegren

    Even though she was a model in her own right before marriage, Norwegian-born Elin Nordegren acquired real fame after she wed ace golfer Tiger Woods in October 2004. However the one time golf-prodigy suffered an ignominious fall over the 2009 Thanksgiving weekend when he crashed his car in the neighborhood and after which reports of a string of adulterous affairs surfaced in the media, some including hookers and bar hostesses. In October 2010 the couple reached a divorce settlement that made Elin richer by $100 to $110 million in return for her silence over her husband’s affairs. As of now Elin has primary custody of the two children, a girl and boy, from marriage from marriage.

    American television personality and socialite, Khloe Kardashian is married Los Angeles Lakers basketball player Lamar Odom. The two got married on September 27, 2009. Khloe is best known for her appearances on various reality as well as television shows like Keeping Up with the Kardashians even though she also she owns a clothing boutique, D-A-S-H, with her sisters Kim and Kourtney Kardashian.

    Sophia Adella is an actress who is best known for her appearances in films like Spartan, Lying in Wait and Knockout. She is married to actor Derek Luke who besides appearing in various television series like the NBC show Trauma, made his big-screen debut performance in the 2002 film Antwone Fisher, directed and produced by Denzel Washington.

    Not much is known about Sara Kapfer besides the fact that she is married to Hollywood actor Cuba Gooding Jr, best known for his Academy Award-winning portrayal of Rod Tidwell in Cameron Crowe's 1996 film Jerry Maguire and his critically acclaimed performance as Tré Styles in John Singleton's 1991 film Boyz n the Hood. Cuba and Sara met while in their teens and got married in 1994. The couple are parents to three children.

    Idina Menzel is an American actress, singer and songwriter who is widely known for originating the roles of Maureen in Rent and Elphaba in Wicked. Menzel is married to actor Taye Diggs, her co-star from the original Broadway production of Rent. The two got married in 2003 and had a son, Walker Nathaniel Diggs, around six years later in 2009.
     
  7. Joanna Shimkus

    Joanna Shimkus is a former Canadian model and actress though now she is better known as the wife of famous Hollywood actor and diplomat Sidney Poitier. Shimkus was born to parents of Lithuanian origin but was brought up in Montreal, Quebec. She went to Paris at age 19, where she worked as a fashion model and soon attracted the attention of movie people on the lookout for new talent. She made her debut in 1964, in Jean Aurel's film De l'amour but was soon noticed by film director Robert Enrico and went on to act in several French productions. Shimkus married Poitier in 1976 and went on to have two daughters with him, Anika and Sydney Tamiia, who also is an actress. Interestingly Poitier starred in the groundbreaking film “Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner” which was a comedy built around parents’ acceptance of an interracial couple.

Parker is a French professional basketball player who currently plays for the Pro A's ASVEL Villeurbanne and France's national team, besides being under contract with the San Antonio Spurs of the NBA. The two had got married in July 2007 in a civil as well as full-fledged Catholic ceremony in Paris. But barely three years later, the two split amid rumors of Parker’s infidelity.
