How to Meet Black men in NYC

Recent trends relationship trends in the US African-American population have for some time now being focusing on the lack of dating opportunities for successful Black women in their own community. Black women complain of an ever-shrinking pool of black eligible men who are available for dating and marriage. Causes range from lack of educational and professional qualification among black men to problems with gangs and law. However if you are based in NYC, here are a few ways to meet Black men and get your love life buzzing.

Your neighborhood Church

The Church or the community religious place has been one of the earliest support resources for the Black community. And though NYC is one of the busiest cities of the world, Black people here still have a special place for their church – whether Christian, Muslim or New Age - in their daily lives. Some of the places you can check out here are Convent Avenue Baptist Church located at 420 West 145th Street and Convent Avenue, the Episcopal Zion Church and the Abyssinian Baptist Church which was the First African-American Baptist Church in the state of New York. The upside of meeting men in church is you may meet a man who is spiritually strong and may therefore treat you well. On your Sunday service, try not to approach men directly, but be present at most social events of the church about 30 minutes after church is over to make yourself available to any men who may want to strike up a conversation. Sports stadiums

Among the most successful Black men are sportspeople, especially in a few like basketball, football and baseball. and NYC is particularly ripe for making the acquaintance of such professionals since New York City is home to the headquarters of the National Football League,] Major League Baseball, the National Basketball Association and the National Hockey League. If this wasn’t enough, the New York metropolitan area has the most professional sports teams in these four leagues. And even though Blacks have been largely associated with physical sports, in recent times the number of black men who have taken up golf and are playing golf consistently have been steadily rising. thus if you are keen to look up black guys in NYC, make a beeline for golf clubs like or your neighborhood driving range. Also a guy you may meet at a swanky golf club is more likely to be financially secure since golf is one of the more expensive sports. Best of all though the high ratio of men to women at golf resorts and driving ranges means that you can take your pick of the attractive Black singles. You will have virtually no competition and instead you'll have guys probably falling over themselves to help you with your swing.

Get Musical

If physical sports has been traditionally associated with Black success, paradoxically music has been another. the immense diverse and rich music scene of NYC owes a great deal to legends from the Black community who have founded , transformed or enriched genres like jazz and New York is home to several major jazz clubs, including Birdland, Sweet Rhythm (formerly Sweet Basil), Village Vanguard and The Blue Note, the latter being one of the premier spots for jazz lovers. The Apollo Theater has long been a place for African American performers to begin their careers; it has such an iconic status that Congress has declared it a national landmark. All these places could make for great opportunities to meet Black men with the same musical interests as you have. for an even more enjoyable context, make it a point to attend the city’s biggest jazz festivals like the Texaco New York Jazz Festival, Panasonic Village Jazz Festival, the JVC Jazz Festival, and the free Charlie Parker Jazz Festival. other music events specifically oriented to the Black community that you could attend in New York City are musicals like ‘Sistas’ which takes the audience through an uplifting musical journey of a multi-generational African-American Family and performances by the Harlem Gospel Choir. Situated in Harlem, Shrine is a club which celebrates the music of Africa and the African diaspora while a more upscale option would be Zinc Bar where Friday night is African night and on the roster are the absolute finest of the New York-based African bands with a few touring bands thrown in for good measure.

Stereotypes about men from the African-American community show them as giving college the heave-ho whereas in reality, more Black men are going back to college to upgrade their professional or artistic skills. In NYC too look for evening or community colleges where you can take a class to learn a language, an art or simply to brush up your professional skills. Best of all, such venues will help you meet single, black men with interests and values that match your own.

Ask your friends and co-workers to hook you up with eligible guys from your community. If you're a black, successful woman, you probably have friends who are also black and successful. And they are likely to have brothers, cousins and friends who were raised with the same values and high expectations. Some of these men may be single and the kind of men who would make good partners.
