Honeymoon in Costa Rica

Literally translated as the Rich Coast, Costa Rica is undoubtedly blessed both in terms of natural and cultural wealth. More importantly, this tiny country has one of the highest quality of life among Latin American nations and one of the world’s greenest tourism industry. All these make Costa Rica a great place to be in, especially if you are planning to celebrate the beginning of your married life.

Lovely beaches

Nestled between the Pacific Ocean in the west and the Caribbean Sea in the east, Costa Rica has a 1100-mile coastline which translates into lovely sandy beaches lapped by turquoise blue waters. If you wish to romance your spouse far away from the crowd of tourists, head for the Osa Peninsula on a quick 45 minute flight where you'll find miles of untouched coastline. Beaches of Playa Conchal, Punta Islita, Avellanas, Santa Teresa, Punta Uva and Nosara are especially favored by honeymooners on account of their quiet surroundings and great views. On the other hand if you are keen to soak in the sights and sounds of Costa Rica, the popular beach towns of Tamarindo and Jaco are perennial favorites with visitors and locals alike. If resources are not a problem, a great way to spend your honeymoon would be stay at any of the luxury resorts which either open out to the beaches or are located in equally amazing natural setting. Watersports galore

There is a lot more you can do on your honeymoon in Costa Rica apart from lazing on its beaches or going for leisurely swims in its balmy waters. The Nicoya Peninsula is especially known for a wide range of watersports and if you both are adventure enthusiasts, you are sure to find an activity of your choice. The Nicoya peninsula juts into the Pacific Ocean in northwest Costa Rica and thus offers plenty of opportunities for water sports. Here you can dive, surf, fish, hike or simply relax in the miles of remote beaches and thickly wooded hills. Small towns like Santa Teresa or Nosara provide are some of the best surfing, where the surf vibe is as big as the waves. For fishermen or naturalists, a trip to the north Caribbean's maze of canals and empty coasts provide the best sport fishing. Bahia de las Piratas on the gold coast is one of the most beautiful places for kayaking because of its general isolation, not to mention the many hidden coves and estuaries waiting to be explored at nearby beaches. To arrive at the Nicoya Peninsula, you can Fly into Tambor airport or make a 4-5 hours drive & ferry ride from San Jose.

Luxurious spa sessions

Once you are worn out by all that activity and sun, it is time to pamper yourselves with a couples’ spa session. A couple’s massage is a great way to relax and refuel to get ready for the adventures still in store at your Costa Rican honeymoon. At a spa resort, you can start by warming up in the Jacuzzi or soaking in hot springs before indulging in the ultimate comfort side by side in the middle of nature with soft tunes playing in the background. Massages can incorporate chocolate wraps, hot stones and organic local products like banana leaves, coconut water and volcanic mud. Other than this you can go for special techniques like Swedish massage, Shiatsu, Thai massage or even yoga classes which will not only rejuvenate your body by relax your mind as well. Some spas offer alternative therapies before, during or after massages – like aromatherapy or color therapy while at most resorts you can combine your spa sessions with beauty treatments like skin exfoliation, manicures, pedicures, facials and waxing. Hour-long massages are of a high quality, and generally range from $20-60 per hour, almost half the rate you can be expected to pay in US or Canada.

Wildlife Treasure

Once you have indulged yourselves, it is time to explore the rest of the natural wealth of this beautiful land. The southern part of Costa Rica is thick with rainforests and protected wildlife and in fact the country is home to 32 National Parks and more than 150 wildlife reserves. You can explore the rich wildlife of Costa Rice on an excursion to the Quepos & Manuel Antonio National Park on the Pacific Coast, the Corovado National Park or the Tortuguero National Park. Don’t miss the Arenal Volcanic Park for views of its awe-inspiring conical volcano, waterfalls and mountainous landscape.

Set out on a Sunset Cruise

A great way to bring your honeymoon in this fantastic place to a close would be to set out on a sunset cruise with your beloved. These cruises can be booked from bigger beaches like Tamarindo, Jaco, Playa del Coco or Manuel Antonio. The cruise usually begins with a sailboat ride that departs around 1:00 or 2:00 in late afternoon. On the boat you can recline with your partner on the mesh sundeck or whisper sweet nothings underneath the catamaran’s shaded canopy. Hors d’oeuvres and refreshments including alcoholic beverages are served intermittently. After an hour or two on the ocean, the captain usually makes a detour to a nearby cove or island for snorkeling or kayaking. After you have had your fill of activities and indulgence, you can look forward to a light dinner along with music and even some cheek-to-cheek dancing. If you are lucky you can also spot dolphins and whales in the distance. Finally you can hold hands with each other as you watch the sun go down on the flaming waters and know in your hearts that the next day will be even lovelier and richer than before.
