Paris is named in most travel literature as the most romantic city in the world. With its grand monuments, classic art and architecture, beautiful palaces and gardens and tantalizing cuisine, Paris draws the romantic at heart from all corners of the world.
Here are some of the most romantic places in Paris:
- The Eiffel Tower
The most renowned structure in Paris. You need not head straight to the top with the jostling throngs of tourists. Instead, dinner at the Jules Verne restaurant on the second floor allows you to enjoy spectacular views with delicious French cuisine. But if you want to be free from the crowds, pack a bottle of wine and lunch or dinner and enjoy in the parks next to the Tower with the glowing Tower at the back ground.
- The Pont des Arts
For a romantic rendezvous, nothing can beat a view from the Seine as pictured in countless movies. The Pont des Arts which is a pedestrian bridge over the Seine offers a magnificent view of the city. It is a popular place for artists and street performers to exhibit their wares and acts. The view is a 360 panorama of famous Paris sights such as Ile de la Cite, the Louvre, and Notre Dame with the glittering Seine as the backdrop. Street musicians perform soundtracks from different movies and the bridge has become a favorite place for romantic strolls.
- Jardin Du Luxumbourg
The gardens surrounding the Palais du Luxembourg have in fact been a scenic host of romance for centuries. The gardens were a favorite with famous couples from Napoleon and Josephine to Jean-Paul Sartre and Simone de Beauvoir. Today it is still a popular spot for lovers to explore the beautiful statues, flowerbeds and fountains.

- Arc De Triomphe and the Champs Elysee
If you want to see the most spectacular sunset in Paris, the Arc De Triomphe is the place for you. Watch the sun go down against this magnificent monument. A taste of history and architecture, this experience will stay with you for a life time. Stretching from the Arc de Triomphe to the Place de la Concorde, the Champs-Élysées is the most renowned street in Paris. Famous as “the most beautiful avenue in the world,” the broad, tree-lined boulevard is home to many theaters, designer stores and restaurants.
- Palace of Versailles
You can enjoy a private tour of the palace with a small group. The place is a UNESCO world heritage site. Visit the royal quarters (the private rooms of Louis the IVth and Louis VI th). The glorious palace transports you to the romance of another age and time. Visit the fabulous Hall of mirrors with its 375 mirrors that reflect the windows on the other side of the hall. In the royal quarters, visit the royal library of Louis VI, the dining room of Louis V th where he held grand dinners for lords and ladies, the clock room with its crystal clock (with its planets revolving around the sun) and the Corner room with its cylinder desk which is rated as one of the most exquisite pieces of furniture ever made. You can also head outside and enjoy the beautiful Gardens of Versailles – an 800 hectare oasis of trees, sculptures, labyrinths and fountains. Depending on the day of the week that you visit the palace, you may catch one of the summer musical events – either the Musical Gardens or the Musical Fountains Show (known as the Grandes Eaux musicales), both of which bring the gardens to life with classical music.
- The Moulin Rouge
Enjoy a romantic evening of dinner and entertainment at the Moulin Rouge, the best show in Paris. Don’t miss the show of world famous showgirls and French Can Can dancers show their talents on the historic stage of Moulin Rouge. The show sells out months in advance, so you have to book early. The Feerie show of the Moulin Rouge features a troupe of 100 artists, such as 60 legendary Doriss Girls, dressed in spectacular costumes of feathers and sequins. A vibrant light show of "Feerie" provides an interesting backdrop for brilliantly choreographed performances consisting of staircases, a huge aquarium, swings and garden settings.
- Montmartre
Situated on a hill in Northern Paris, it offers spectacular views of the city. Visitors are also attracted by the quaint village atmosphere of the region as well. Along with your loved one, you can stroll through the shops, cafes and narrow winding streets where artists and performers have occupied space.
- Musee Rodin
Paris is renowned for its various magnificent museums but the most romantic and intimate museum is that of the Musee Rodin. Rodin’s work like The Kiss and The Thinker are housed in Hotel Biron where Rodin had his studio. You can wander through the gardens of the mansion and find beautiful creations of the artist tucked away in hidden corners and nooks. Walk hand in hand through this garden of Rodin, closest you will get to the Garden of Eden. The sunlight, trees, benches and waters a background for the sculptures have a magical effect.
- Hotel De Ville
Restore one of the most romantic images captured on film, The Kiss on the Sidewalk (Le Baiser du Trottoir) by Robert Doisneau. Once published in Life magazine in 1950, this photo captured the spirit of romantic Paris and helped Paris get the name as the City of Love. One can purchase this photo at any Parisian tourist store.
