Will You Transmit Herpes Infection When Having Sex if Your Herpes Is Dormant?
Herpes infection is transmitted through skin-to-skin contact, and fluid-filled blisters are the most highly contagious. However, after blistering, having cold sores and dry crusts doesn’t mean you will not transfer the disease to your partner. One of the ways to minimize risk is to avoid having sex during herpes outbreaks. But that doesn’t mean you will not spread the disease. Herpes can be spread during outbreaks and when herpes has not yet flared up. Even if you never experienced tingling or your first sore, you can spread the disease if you have it. The risk is highly minimized if your sexual activity is performed outside outbreaks, but the probability is not yet zero.
