How Contagious Is Herpes?

Herpes is contagious depending on the stage of the disease. Between outbreaks, and when patients are apparently healthy, herpes is less contagious than during outbreaks. This goes for oral and genital herpes, so it’s a good measure to stop having sexual intercourse and avoid kissing during outbreaks because otherwise it is very likely we would get herpes. Herpes is especially contagious when the sores are still moist, but it doesn’t mean that it is impossible to get the disease by having contact between outbreaks. Even if the chance is reduced, herpes can be contagious between outbreaks and with asymptomatic patients as well.
