Will a Condom Prevent Herpes?

The usage of condoms during sexual intercourse has been shown in studies to significantly reduce the risk of Herpes infections.  Unlike most other STD’s herpes is transmitted through skin to skin contact and not necessarily through bodily fluids. Therefore since condoms do not cover the entirety of the genital region they cannot completely stop the risk of infection. The good news is that studies have shown that each unprotected sexual act increased the risk of herpes infection by over 3% yet when condoms were used during intercourse the risk of infection did not increase. Some studies have suggested that the protection offered by condoms is not even across genders, with women receiving a higher protection from infection than men.
