How Long Does It Take to Get Herpes?

Someone who has been exposed to the Herpes virus might not be aware of being infected and might actually never develop an outbreak of sores. The majority of people who have been infected will start to notice itching or pain about 2 to 12 days after the infection followed by the appearance of the first sores a few days later. The initial outbreak might last anywhere from 10 to 14 days. After the blisters dry up and shed away a person might think that they have gotten rid of the virus, but that is not so as the virus has simply gone dormant. Over time the virus will reactivate and cause a new outbreak of sores and symptoms. The time between these recurring outbreaks varies from patient to patient, with some having several per year and others having none.
