Can You Get Herpes From Sharing a Drink With Someone?

It is extremely unlikely to get Herpes Virus type 2 by sharing a drink or food with somebody who is infected. HSV type 2 is spread through skin to skin contact usually of the genital region. Unless somebody touches an open sore or secretions from a herpes lesion and then proceeds to handle the part of the glass that will come into contact with your mouth you will most likely never catch HSV type by sharing a drink with an infected person. . Luckily the herpes virus has a very short lifetime once outside the body.  HSV type 1 on the other hand is spread through saliva and thus can be transmitted through kissing, and sharing drinks or utensils.
