1. Walk the line
   
   Based on the real life pursuit of singer Johnny Cash of muse June Carter. Their romance will go down in history as the most enduring stories of our times. Despite going through tumultuous phases, their love stood the test of time. It is a story of unconditional love and how people can change when they love someone. June and Johnny met in 1956 and were married for 35 years. They are buried next to each other in Hendersonville, Tennessee near the spacious home where they spent most of their lives together. After their death, the home was bought by Barry Gibb and his wife to be used for their songwriting purposes.

2. Anna and the King
   
   Based on the novel by Anna Leonowens , a British governess about her romance with the King of Siam. The love affair between King Maha Mongkut of Siam and Anna Leonowens is passionate and romantic. Anna and the King is a remake of The King and I. In the lead are Jodie  Foster and Chow Yun-Fat  who give  riveting performances. The romance between the King and the governess was also the subject of a novel by Margaret Landon titled Anna and the King of Siam. It was used for the screen with Yul Brynner as the lead.
   
   
    
3. Shadow Lands
   
   Based on the  real-life 1950's romance between British writer C.S. Lewis and divorced American poet Joy Gresham.C. S. Lewis is most famous for the magical world he created with his “ Chronicles of Narnia”. In 1952, a 54 year old Lewis was woken up from his magical idyll when he meets Joy Gresham an award winning poetess in her own right. They got married in 1956.Gresham died in 1959 after a bout with cancer. The short time they spent together was the happiest in the life of Lewis.
    
4. Mrs. Soffel
   
   This true, twisted romance between  a real life housewife Kate Soffel and killer  Ed Biddel. Kate was in the habit of visiting prisoners in a jail where her husband was warden, to read to the prisoners. Shockingly , she falls in love with inmate Ed Biddel for whom she leaves her husband and children. Ed was on death row for murder. On 30th January 1902, Kate Soffel  helped  Ed Biddle and his brother Jack escape from the Allegheny County Jail. But two days later, both Biddle brothers are killed and Kate suffers an injury. She served two years in prison for helping in the escape. She died in 1909 after contracting typhoid.
    
5. Gable and Lombard
   
   The sensational love story of actors Clark Gable and Carole Lombard. They met in 1932 for the filming of  ‘No Man of Her Own’. Gable was married to a Texas heiress and Lombard to actor William Powell. They started their tumultuous affair in 1936 when they attended a party and danced together all night. They were married in 1939 in Arizona while Gable was filming Gone with the Wind, the biggest movie of his career.
    
6. Becoming Jane
   
   Anne Hathaway stars as author Jane Austen. It pursues the theory that Austen’s young love affair with Irishman Tom Lefroy led her to write her classic- Pride and Prejudice. She went on to write Sense and Sensibility, Emma and Mansfield Park. She died in 1817 at age 42. She soon  became one of the most popular writers of British literature.
    
7. Amadeus
   
   This is not a typical romantic tale, but the story of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart , the great composer which has  a large dollop of classical music,  and explores  the theme of   jealousy of a rival composer and a resultant tragedy. It is also the love story of Mozart and, Constanz Weber. The story is that Mozart fell in love with Aloysia Weber  while he sought  work in Mannheim. After spending four fruitless years in Mannheim, Mozart travelled around for more years before settling in Vienna. In 1782, he got married to Constanz, the younger sister of Aloysia.
    
8. The Sound of Music
   
   Julie Andrews stars as Maria in this 1965 musical about a nun who is sent to be the governess of a widower named  Captain Von Trapp and his seven children. Maria  wins the heart of the children, showering them with love and affection they lacked without a mother. The Captain is at first angry with her but soon falls in love with this singing nun. Now the threat of Nazis looms over Vienna  and the captain who marries Maria must make  a daring escape to Switzerland with the Von Trapp family.
    
9. The Other side of the mountain
   
   Tells the story of  skier Jill Kinmont who wins the 1956 Olympics medal but suffers twin tragedies. At first she suffers a fall during training in Utah and is paralyzed for life. Her husband leaves her but she becomes  a teacher and finds love again with Dick Buek. The second tragedy strikes when Buek is killed in a plane crash. Kilmont survives the twin tragedies and lives happily in California today. The movie has an award winning track by Olivia Newton John.
    
10. A Beautiful Mind
    
    The story of the brilliant mathematician-economist John Nash. It is the story how his wife Alicia Larde helps him fight his demons as a paranoid schizophrenic. She offers him unconditional love and support and he goes on to win the Nobel Prize in economics for his concept of Nash equilibrium. Alicia has to deal with more issues than his mental illness. Nash had homosexual affairs secretly and also fathered  a child with a nurse while dating Alicia. Despite Nash’s l lifestyle,  Alicia and Nash married in 1957. Alicia gave birth to a son in 1959 who suffers from episodic schizophrenia. The couple divorced in 1963 but they got together again in 1970.
