How Common Is Chlamydia?

Chlamydia is a very common sexually transmitted infection caused by bacteria. It is sometimes hard to get real numbers about how many persons are infected because many sick people never develop the signs or symptoms. It can affect men and women alike, in all age groups, but especially it affects young women. It is the most common sexually transmitted bacterial disease in the Unites States; every year more than 1 million cases (some reports speak of up to 3 million) are reported to the Center for Disease Control. It is estimated that in the group age between 14 and 19 year old teenage girls close to 7% of them have Chlamydia.
