Is Chlamydia Life Threatening?
An untreated Chlamydia can take several harmful courses. In men it can produce inflammation of the urethra. Also Chlamydia can generate a condition called epididymitis, an inflammation of the epididymis, a tube that carries sperm from the testicle to the ejaculatory ducts. In women It can produce pelvic inflammatory disease: an infection of the ovaries, the fallopian tubes and uterus, which can lead to infertility. It also can produce cervicitis, which is an inflammation of the cervix, and salpingitis, inflammation of the fallopian tubes. This last condition could produce a blockage of the fallopian tubes risking an ectopic pregnancy, which occurs when a fertilized egg implants outside of the uterus. As the embryo develops it can cause the rupture of the organ it is attached to. This is a potentially deadly consequence of an untreated Chlamydia.
