Why Gonorrhea Is Called the Drip?

Gonorrhea is a common sexually transmitted infection caused by the bacterium Neisseria gonorrhoeae. It is easily treatable with antibiotics although lately the medical community has become concerned with a higher reported incidence of antibiotic resistance to the most common treatments. Symptoms typical to this infection include a general feeling of tiredness, painful urination, painful intercourse, inflammation of the urethra and most commonly a penile and vaginal discharge. This last symptom is most likely the reason why the disease can be commonly heard being referred to as “the drip”.
