Can Gonorrhea Be Dormant?

Just like several other sexually transmitted diseases, it is possible for gonorrhea to lie dormant. It is actually quite common for many sexually transmitted diseases to lie dormant for a few years before first manifesting. Most people infected with the gonorrhea bacterium never actually develop any symptoms. Over 50% of men, for example, are asymptomatic for gonorrhea. Gonorrhea has been known to lie dormant for about a year before any symptoms show up. It is highly unlikely that gonorrhea will lie dormant for periods longer than 1 year. Because of this it is extremely difficult to pinpoint the exact moment of contraction.
