How Common Is Gonorrhea?

Gonorrhea is very common and highly contagious sexually transmitted infection. It spread through oral, vagina and anal sex. With the prevalence of unprotected sex nowadays gonorrhea is has become quite common among certain demographics. According to the Center for Disease Control an estimated 800,000 new infections occur every year in the United States. It is important to note that because so many people infected with gonorrhea are asymptomatic it is possible that those numbers are not entirely accurate. In fact only about half of the estimated cases of gonorrheal infections are reported every year. Any sexually active person is at risk for contracting this infectious disease so it is of utmost importance to always practice safe sex and limit the number of sexual partners one may have.
