What Are the Symptoms of Gonorrhea in Women?

Gonorrhea is a bacterial infection that spreads from individual to individual through sexual contact. Any type of sexual intercourse is capable of transmitting disease. Women with numerous sexual partners are at much greater risk of becoming infected. Once infected with gonorrhea many women do not develop any symptoms whatsoever and some that do, develop rather mild symptoms that are often confused with other similar and more benign infections. This makes gonorrhea difficult to identify. Symptoms typical of a gonorrhea infection in women include vaginal discharge, increased frequency of urination, painful urination, heavier periods or spotting, painful sexual intercourse and sharp pains in the lower abdomen.
