Can You Get Gonorrhea From Kissing?

It is highly unlikely but not impossible to get gonorrhea from kissing. The most common ways that gonorrhea is transmitted is through oral, vaginal and anal sex. The bacterium that causes gonorrhea infections thrives in the mucous membranes of the body such as those found in the genitals, anus and mouth. As such if a person performs unprotected oral sex on somebody who has been infected with gonorrhea it is possible to become infected. Once in the mouth the gonorrhea bacterium will most likely take hold in the throat where it will develop into pharyngeal gonorrhea. Pharyngeal gonorrhea is asymptomatic in most cases and in such cases that symptoms do appear they tend to be mild and easily mistaken for other conditions.
